The importance of having a Biofuel Policy

In line with the vision of the United Arab Emirates for sustainable development, which aims to provide clean and reliable alternatives to fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions to improve the security of energy supplies, by converting waste into energy, where biofuels are made by recycling used cooking oil and producing biodiesel including Provides sustainable, low-cost alternatives, in addition to enhancing and diversifying energy sources.

The Ministry of Energy Infrastructure invites the public to share their opinions on the importance of having a biofuel policy in the country.


Consultation Objective:

Through this advice, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure aims to monitor all opinions and proposals on the importance of preparing a biofuel policy, to regulate the biofuel sector, deter harmful practices, and provide sustainable alternatives to consumers.

Launching the National Biofuel Policy.

Outcome

The UAE seeks to provide clean and reliable alternatives for fossil fuels to decarbonize energy supply and improve energy security. One of these alternatives is biofuel, which is made by recycling used cooking oil and producing biodiesel, providing sustainable, low-cost fuel, in addition to enhancing and diversifying energy sources.

To get the feedback of customers and measure their awareness of the National Biofuel Policy, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure invited the public to take a survey. 

More than 300 participants from across the UAE took part in this digital consultation. The majority, representing 22.67%, are from the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the least share of participants is from the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain at 2.17%. 

The digital consultation found that more than 63% of participants believe that it is of paramount importance that there is a National Biofuel Policy in the country, while 1.22% disagree.

As for the question: What is the importance of the national biofuel policy? Key answers are summarized in the following points:

  • Reducing environmental pollution and maintaining air purity
  • Using proper alternatives and reducing dependence on external options
  • Promoting sustainability and clean energy for future generations
  • Helping the implementation of a clean energy system
  • Diversifying fuel sources
  • Raising community awareness
  • Creating new job opportunities

More than 51% of participants strongly agree that the presence of the National Biofuel Policy in the country will help regulate the energy sector and deter harmful practices. Those who disagree with this and believe that it has no effect represent only 3%.

More than 87% of participants support providing biofuel (biodiesel) at gas stations so that it is easy to access and use.

One of the most important goals of the National Biofuel Policy is to support the biofuel market and advance sustainable development, as 89% of participants in this survey agree with this. More than 88% of participants agree that this policy will encourage investors to increase investment in the field of clean energy and create new job opportunities.

Some of the participants' comments and suggestions are that alternative energy sources must be used to help create a safe, sustainable environment and that the public must be made aware of the importance of alternative energy sources and how they work.
