“Ministry Of Energy & Infrastructure" Releases “Power To Liquid Road Map In Aviation Sector Report

His Excellency Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of Ministry of Energy and infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Sector, said that achieving the targets of the United Arab Emirates for the next 50 years; seeking global leadership in various fields, especially energy, particularly clean energy; and sustainable development aspirations require joint action between various government bodies in addition to the private sector, doubling the efforts to innovate and implement innovative solutions and the optimal use of modern technology that would accelerate the pace of achieving the UAE Centennial 2071”.

These remarks came during Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure’s release of “Power to Liquid (PTL)” report, the road map for turning energy into a sustainable fuel for aviation, entitled "Supporting the transformation of aviation sector in United Arab Emirates through Power to Liquid", which was prepared in cooperation between Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure and World Economic Forum. The event, held at Grand Hyatt Dubai, was attended by His Excellency Eng. Yousef Al Ali, Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Water and future Energy Sector, and a number of national airlines officials and major companies operating in the field.

His Excellency said that the UAE is exerting great efforts to launch the qualitative and most sustainable projects and initiatives related to the energy sector, particularly those related to renewable (clean) energy, which aim at supporting the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, and which are consistent with Paris Climate Accords goals. UAE is actively working with its regional and global partners to achieve sustainability in the energy sector, accelerate energy transformation, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and contribute to climate neutrality.

His Excellency Eng. Yousef Al Ali, Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Water and future Energy Sector, affirmed the importance of the report in promoting reliance on sustainable aircraft fuel and low carbon fuel for aviation sector; building ambitious partnerships; encouraging partnership with the private sector; and inviting investors to invest in sustainable energy in aviation sector for its vital role in diversifying energy sources, addressing climate change which represents one of the most important challenges facing the whole world, and achieving the Net Zero goal. In addition, H.E. illustrated the need to promote and develop scientific studies and research in fields related to sustainable low carbon fuels, as an important pivotal goal within the UAE’s Next 50 project aiming at achieving ambitious achievements.

Moreover, on the sidelines of the launching ceremony of “Power to Liquid Road Map” report and within "Inspiring Projects for Sustainable Energy” initiative series, Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure organized a virtual workshop on the development of sustainable aviation fuel and its role in supporting UAE's goals of shifting toward clean energy, with speakers participating from several local and international bodies such as Boeing Aviation, Dubai Airports, Masdar and ICF, and the presence of a number of competent authorities and universities and colleges academics. The session reviewed success stories of emissions reductions in aviation sector and technological developments in aviation sector, in addition to opportunities and challenges related to sustainable aviation fuel development.
