On the sidelines of his participation in the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, highlighted how the UAE diversifies its energy mix to enhance energy security, promote economic and industrial growth, and drive climate action, as the country has committed to achieve net zero by 2050.
The Minister highlighted the UAE’s commitment to ensuring stability in global energy markets as a foundation for sustainable growth and long-term investment. He noted that continuous investment in capacity, clean technologies, and resilient infrastructure is essential to meet growing economic and population needs.
He said: “The UAE is investing AED 189 billion in major clean energy projects and infrastructure to maintain a reliable and advanced electricity grid, supporting the Net Zero 2050 Strategy. By 2024, the UAE surpassed 12 GW of clean energy capacity - 6.8 GW of renewable energy and 5.6 GW of nuclear power- accounting for over 30% of total electricity generation.”
He added: “The UAE is advancing clean-energy deployment through strong public-private partnerships and world-class infrastructure. Our energy landscape includes three of the world’s largest single-site solar projects, the fully operational Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, and the world’s largest solar-plus-storage facility delivering round-the-clock clean power. These efforts are supported by grid-modernization programs to enhance flexibility and reliability as we scale our clean-energy capacity. The goal is affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy, balancing price stability with long-term investment and supporting economic competitiveness while accelerating the clean energy transition.”
The Minister explained that domestic measures include ensuring reliability 24/7 with sufficient conventional capacity, diversifying energy mix with gas, solar, nuclear, and hydrogen for resilience against price volatility, and developing one of the most interconnected power systems in the region via GCC links and planned cross-regional connections.
Internationally, the Minister added, the UAE continues to shape the global energy transition through leadership and active participation in key international platforms, including CEM, WEC, OPEC+, IRENA, and COP. He further emphasized that the UAE is leading the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA), reinforcing its role in supporting balanced and secure energy markets while advancing global cooperation on clean energy, efficiency, and innovation.
Under the theme ‘Energy. Intelligence. Impact’, ADIPEC brings together global leaders to address a dual imperative – building resilience in today’s systems and scaling intelligent solutions to accelerate inclusive global progress.
