Minister of Energy & Industry: “2.4 million cubic meters is the yield of last rain in the dams of UAE”.

HE Suhail Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Industry, announced that the total yield of the dams in UAE from the rainwater during the last few days reached about 2.4 million cubic meters.
HE Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry, inspected Tuesday the dam of Al-Ghail in Kalbaa city to witness the outcome of the dam and its infrastructure after the heavy rains that hit the city, as a part of the weather change throughout the country.
His Excellency said in a statement on the sidelines of the visit that the total number of dams in the UAE, which are supervised by the Ministry, was 104 dams, and the Emirate of Fujairah has the largest number of them, followed by the Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah.
H.E explained that the dams are highly efficient and play a major role in maintaining the infrastructure of the country, especially during the rainy season and floods, as well as their main role as a component of water storage.
HE Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry, revealed the total water reserves of all dams at the state level, following the recent rains, reached 2.4 million cubic meters; and he pointed out that the storage capacity of Al-Gail dam in Kalbaa is 541 thousand cubic meters.
In his explanation of the Ministry's directions and strategies, HE said that the latter’s are based on three main objectives: reducing water consumption per capita by 40% until 2032. In addition to the decoupling of electricity generation and desalination, using reverse osmosis technique (RO) instead of burning gas, pointing out that this technology will be provided for the use of gas and for the cost of desalination.
The Minister of Energy and Industry added that the Ministry aims to reduce the use of groundwater or rainwater in agriculture and rely on treated water instead.
Al Mazrouei concluded his remarks by stressing that the Ministry's intentions are for promoting the water links between the Emirates of the state, pointing to the agreement with all the entities on a number of linking projects to ensure a sustainable distribution of water.
