Meeting of the Joint Committee for Cooperation in the field of Water Resources between the UAE and the Republic of South Korea

HE Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Industry, chaired the third meeting of the UAE-South Korea Joint Committee for Water Resources Cooperation in the presence of representatives of related water entities and authorities in the country. HE Hageon Park, Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of South Korea, headed on his part the Korean side.
The Joint Committee reviewed the progress of the existing water projects between the concerned authorities in both countries in the field of groundwater monitoring and control, and advanced desalination technologies in membranes. The meeting also discussed the possibility of joint technical cooperation in the field of smart water networks, dam management, reuse of treated water and new technologies in the field of water desalination.
H.E the Undersecretary of the Ministry stressed the importance of the work of the Joint Committee for the Cooperation in Water Resources with the Republic of Korea to strengthen the series of global partnerships that the Ministry is working on and to benefit from modern expertise and technologies to address water scarcity and enhance the utilization of groundwater. He also noted that it was agreed to form three joint technical working teams with the Korean side on the technical cooperation for water, groundwater and desalination programs. During the coming period, representatives from the two countries will be named in these three teams. He also praised the existing cooperation with the concerned local authorities specialized in the water sector in UAE, and for their active participation in the work of the joint team.
The representatives of the Electricity and Water Authority, the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi, from UAE University, Khalifa University as well as Masdar all participated in the work of the Joint Committee.
