Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, the Ministry of Energy and Industry participated in the Fujairah International Mining Forum under the slogan "Investing our Wealth is a National Priority on Zayed Al Khair Approach." The forum held for the sixth year in a row, organized by the Fujairah Natural Resources Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Industry and the Arab Organization for Industrial Development and Mining during the period 26-28 February 2018.
For his part, HE Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Industry, said that the United Arab Emirates attaches great importance to the sustainability and conservation of natural resources, which includes the sustainability of the mining industry.
He referred to the relationship of energy and water to the mining industry. The presence of these resources near the mining areas at reasonable prices is an important factor in the sustainability and success of the mining industry and its ability to attract foreign investment and contribute more to the national economy, and modern technologies provide several options for the provision of energy and water resources to the mining sector. Solar energy, for example, and the tendency to use it in mining areas would contribute to reducing the electricity bill and reducing the cost of operation. With regard to water, the use of treated water represents a major shift in groundwater conservation and in the reduction of the water consumption bill. Treated water is an alternative and a less expensive option, with a number of modifications to production plants that will make the plant more sustainable and more competitive. This interdependence between energy, water and industry has driven by the integration of the industry sector into the Ministry.
Within the framework of the national strategy of the state and the comprehensive plan of UAE 2040, the forum deals with ways to diversify the national economy and highlight the importance of the innovative mining exploitation of industrial rocks and mining as a benefit to the local economy.
In addition, exploring ways of the innovative use of mining and construction waste for the sustainability of natural resources. Included also in the forum agenda is the hosting of the twenty-fourth meeting of the Advisory Committee for the mineral wealth sector.
