The UAE participates in the work of the Special Session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity

His Excellency Eng. Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, chaired the state delegation participating in the work of the meeting of the Special Session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity of the League of Arab States. This session was held virtually today while the meeting of the Extraordinary Session of the Ministerial Council was chaired by H.E Dr. Muhammad Shaker, The Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and it was attended by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States; with the participation of the Arab ministers and representatives of the Arab member states, as well as the secretariat of the Council. The session was also attended as observers and representatives of many organizations, entities, federations and joint Arab action institutions.
During the meeting, His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit stressed in his speech the importance of achieving an integrated electrical connection between Arab countries, and the vital and important role of the energy and electricity sector in raising and strengthening the ability of societies to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable development renaissance. He called for efforts to focus on utilizing as much as possible of the available capabilities of the energy and electricity sectors in the Arab region, which are considered among the most promising sectors.
The special session was devoted to discussing the governance documents of the Arab Common Electricity Market and the position on the two agreements (Namely the General Agreement and the Arab Common Electricity Market Agreement).
For his part, His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei, the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said “We are pleased with the unanimity of their Excellency the Arab Ministers of Electricity in approving the two agreements, and we aspire to implement the Arab Common Market project in order to achieve an integrated electrical connection between Arab countries; and it allows the establishment of an electricity market, which in turn will bring many economic and environmental benefits at the level of the Arab world and will help in achieving sustainable development”.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Eng. Sherif Al Olama, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and a number of officials in the ministry and representatives of the state embassy in Cairo.
