Under the auspices of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, of Morocco, the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organisation (AIDMO) is holding "The 13th Arab International Mineral Resources Conference and Its Accompanying Exhibition" in the Moroccan city of Marrakech through the period 28-30 April 2014.

In this context, the second meeting of the preparatory Committee of the Conference was held at AIDMO’s headquarters in Rabat to discuss the final arrangements of the conference and the accompanying exhibition. The meeting saw the participation of delegations from Jordan, UAE, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Morocco and Yemen, in addition to the Arab Mining Company, the Scientific Institute in the Moroccan Kingdom and the Regional Centre for Remote Sensing of the North African States (CRTEAN) based in Tunisia.

The UAE representative at the meeting was Mr. Khalid Al-Hosani the geological expert at the Ministry of Energy.

The Conference will be held under the slogan “Mineral Resources promising potential for sustainable development”. It aims at exchanging knowledge and experience between Arab and foreign experts and Arab and international institutions working in the mining sector and activating the Arab-international cooperation in this field. It also aims at acquainting with the mineral sector and its impact on the economies of Arab countries, the promotion of mining projects, the development of mining legislation and elimination of obstacles hindering Arab and foreign investments in this sector.

The Conference also aims to attract capitals and the private sector to invest in the mining sector for optimal investment of mineral resources and preserving the environment.

The Conference enables participants to access modern technologies in the field of exploration and prospecting of mineral resources in Arab countries. It also seeks to encourage Arab and international cooperation and coordination in the field of mineral exploration and mining manufacturing among Arab states.

The Conference focuses on seven main topics which include investment opportunities in the mining sector in the Arab countries, geological mineral belts in the Arab world and potential capabilities (e.g. Nubian Arab shield, Alrjibat, Alhogar, torsional belt of northwest Africa etc.), mining investment climate in the Arab countries, mineral resources as one an alternative source of energy, manufacturing industries of mineral ores, modern technology and its role in exploration, extraction and processing of mineral ores in addition to international experiences in mining activity and their role in sustainable development.

A technical exhibition will be organised on the sidelines of this conference to view

the latest developments by Arab and foreign bodies and companies operating in the mining industry. The exhibition is also an important event for direct encounters between those who work in the field of science and industry and investment and the companies producing equipment and tools used in the mining sector, in order to showcase their products and publicise them.

The areas of participation in the exhibition* shall include extraction industries such as extraction of phosphates, limestone, sand, marble and ores of iron, copper, bauxite, coal, lead, gold, silver and others. Another field of participation is the field of manufacturing industries based on extraction industries such as the industries of building material, cement, thermo-stable materials, earthenware, glass, fertilisers, iron and steel, aluminium as well as the ceramics industry and others. Other topics pertaining to the extraction of minerals include: equipment for mining, quarries, crushers (mills) as well as geotechnical equipment and electronic devices such as: automatic drilling and ore assessment equipment; geotechnical engineering and soil research equipment; seismographic equipment; electromagnetic, magnetic and gravity monitoring equipment as well as spectrometric instruments and equipment for analysis of precious and strategic ores.
